Join the Navy This Winter!

Navy is always classic and never goes out of style like many other colors. It goes with almost any decorating style, especially colonial, Cape Cod and traditional.

Navy can be feminine and romantic when elements include floral patterns and soft fabrics. Or it can be masculine and tailored when plaids, stripes and checks are used.

Navy goes best with white for a crisp, clean look. It also pairs well with powder blue, taupe, cream and light gray for a softer feel. Try accents in mustard, lavender, hot pink, khaki or even orange or acid green for a little zing. You can also use navy as a neutral in place of black or brown.

Try navy out with a painted accent wall, a denim upholstered sofa or chair, or a painted piece of wood furniture. Add an Asian vase or ceramic stool in navy and white to introduce both color and an Asian touch. You can even paint your front door in a dramatic navy blue.

Redecorate Your Bedroom for Romance and Comfort

Just in time for Valentines Day!

A bedroom that makes you feel romantic and pampered is all about soft colors, soft textures, soft fabrics and soft corners. Adding glamor will also create romance. Try antiques, crystal chandeliers, metallic wall coverings, and gold and silver accents in furniture, lighting, headboards and mirrors. And, by the way, nothing will make a bedroom less romantic than clutter, so clean up the mess!

  • Use lots of lavish bed linens to sink into and luxuriate
  • Add window fashions that filter the incoming light
  • Purchase a fainting couch or chaise lounge for an extra snuggling spot
  • Invest in a four-poster or sleigh bed or even a bed with a canopy!
  • Pay special attention to lighting to make sure it’s soft and gentle
  • And, if you’re remodeling, build a fireplace to make the boudoir cozy and warm

Now is the perfect time to make your bedroom more romantic – for Valentines Day and throughout the year.

Winter Decorating To-Do List

Purchase soft and warm accessories this season – cashmere throws, velvet slipcovers and flannel bedding.

Replace lamps that just aren’t doing the job of keeping your house bright and light.

Add candles to your lighting plan for extra illumination and a romantic touch.

Save money by purchasing energy-efficient window coverings, such as Hunter Douglas Duette® Architella™ honeycomb shades. They feature a unique patented construction with a honeycomb nestled within a honeycomb, for greater energy efficiency and sound absorption – and they come in a radiant color palette.

Plan a family dinner in front of a roaring fireplace, with a hearty pasta or piping-hot stew. Add fresh baked bread and a warm apple pie or crumble.
